That is what happens when you rest on your laurels and don't develop new things and new revenue streams.

If Nokia got in early with Android and did as well as HTC did, it might be a different picture. Or if they reached out with a wide development based on Symbian. Let others license and adopt, let users develop for it, it might have been better.

Sure its real hard going up against Apple and Google, but if they had started early, they might have cut into both of their business a bit and had a lot more to bargain with Microsoft over, maybe something that didn't turn Nokia into just a big mask for Balmer to wear at parties.
 
Again, RIP for Symbian. You've been good to me with MOAP-S. You'll be missed...
 
"All employees affected by the reduction plans can stay on the Nokia payroll through the end of 2011," the company said in a statement released to the press.
That's showing a little class.
