Non ARC receiver and non ARC TV

How do I get surround from TV broadcasts when I have a non ARC amp and non ARC TV?

Your TV probably has an optical audio out. Connect that to a spare input on your receiver.

You probably can't get surround out of it then. Either live with stereo (use a headphone to 2xRCA cable), or get a separate set-top box.

Even stereo would be an improvement if I could get it out of the speakers. The amp is just sitting there collecting dust now.

The TV is an ACE LED-808, The amp/DVD is a Samsung HT-E350K (Made in China)

No headphone port, no optical ports.

The cable signal goes to the cable box via coaxial. They ran the 3 RCA cables to the TV. Can I just connect the 3 RCA cables to the amp/DVD player and connect the amp/DVD player to the TV with a HDMI cable?

I thought we were dealing with the internal tuner in the TV.

Yes, the cable box has a HDMI port, but the amp/DVD player only has 1 HDMI port. (Although the TV does have 2 HDMI ports.

Yes, the cable box has a HDMI port, but the amp/DVD player only has 1 HDMI port. (Although the TV does have 2 HDMI ports....so I'm thinking just run the 3 RCA cables from the cable box to the amp/DVD player and run the HDMI cable to the TV ....and then figure out what settings to use on the TV to make it work.
