So as far as I can see, the "fremium" version offered thru Google Play Store consists of a 30-day free trial, after which the subscription is $14.95/year.
I can find no ongoing free version at all.
Any suggestions?

When you install the Android app, all the premium features are active for 30 days. After that, the premium features are deactivated unless and until you pay the subscription fee. The free features will continue to work either way.

And ... hold that response. There definitely was a free tier in Norton Mobile Security when we were editing this review last summer, but we just installed it again to check and you're right -- the app doesn't say anything about a free tier, and it asks for a credit card right away.

We're checking with Norton about this. If they did indeed change the pricing, we'll be doing some serious updating to our review.

We have still received no response from Norton regarding this matter, but we did some digging in the Norton forums and discovered that Norton ended the free tier of Norton Mobile Security in early December 2019:

We at Tom's Guide were not informed of this by Norton. Nor were we informed that Norton Mobile Security's anti-theft, weblink blocking and contacts-backup features were also disabled in early December:

Needless to say, we will be updating our review, and our rating, of Norton Mobile Security.
