In another thread, Bill Smith mentioned a laptop cooler.
I've started this thread to discuss the critters'

Do notebook coolers make sense?

As I understand it, the notebook sits on top of the cooler. The cooler is
powered by the USB port.

Who makes the best?

I'm not convinced they do. Putting your laptop on a hard surface so
it'll get plenty of airflow ought to be enough. My Dell Dock and Port
Replicator even pick the back end og the laptop up 1/2 inch or so to
improve airflow.

They seem to be pretty expensive for something you shouldn't need if
the laptop manufacturer did his thermal design right...

Antec notebook cooler seems to be the highest rated one. Very handy devices
for those of us with desktop replacements. Less useful for those of you with
the Centrino lightweight's.

There is absolut no sense for notebook coolers
Real notebooks with real mobile CPUs
do not need coolers.

The so called "mobile" P4 is no real mobile CPU
The so called "mobile" Athlon also not.

There are also pseudo "notebooks" with desktop CPUs.
At this pseudo "notebooks" the cooler makes sense.

So it's better called pseudo "notebook" cooler
