NYT: New iPhone Likely Cheaper but Not Smaller

Well, there is already a cheaper iPhone, it's called the iPhone 3GS and it's still available in many places. They could simply keep selling that, but maybe with updated (easier to find) components.

Also I'm wondering where the *bigger* iPhone is? 3.5" is really small and outdated these days. The high-end phone should be available as a 4.3" version so you can browse the web properly on it.

Yeah they need to come out with a larger screen model. I think if they can put out a 3.5 inch for $125-150 subsidized and a new 4.3-5 inch for around $200 subsidized it would be great.

iPhone 5 with a 5 inch bezel less screen would be awesome.

If apple could have several designs & sizes, that would be great...Anyway apple probably guages the market by giving a few hints every now & again to these news outlets & could probably change again depending on the reaction they get from these news leaks...

I really don't get why people want their phones to be that big and heavy.
3.5" is a good size for a phone. 4" or more gets uncomfortable.
Bigger isn't always better.

Viewing something on a larger screen, though easier to navigate visually, really would seem more cumbersome physically to hold in one hand.. and would certainly work better for an ipod touch most likely if they were to go this route. And a larger screen, in order to retain 'retina' status, would still need around 330ppi to avoid more obvious pixelation.. but that would also involve updating applications, again.

Apple should just give up.. They had their turn, and they should of known that this Android thing was going to be bigger and better then them.. Too many iPhones is enough. its the same sh**¡

I think they could make a smaller model using their current screen, just reduce the wasted space above and below the screen. If they were considering not having "the button" anymore, then that allows for removing space below the screen. Then they could make their full feature model with a slightly larger screen. I would like to see something like a 4.3" screen.

dude...I know you tell yourself that...but ask any woman...they want a bigger...screen. ALWAYS.
😀

(srsly though, 3.5" is a tad small, 4,5 is too big...there is a sweet spot somewhere inbetween)

Well, since people want it, they should produce a bigger phone. That doesn't mean they should kill off the 3.5" version. Many manufacturers of Android phones have one 3.x" version and another at 4.x". It's just two choices, that shouldn't be too confusing.

What'll probably happen is that there will be a less-expensive iPhone with, say, 4/8GB of memory vs 16/32, and with the current 800MHz processor vs. a speed-bumped 1GHZ processor. Or, it'll be a single core vs. a dual-core for the standard iPhone.

I have an Android phone, and I don't use my SD cars storage for hardly anything outside pictures. Not everyone needs their phone to be their music/video player, etc. And, maybe they're addressing that part of the market.

Although, knowing Apple, they'll just make a 32/64GB dual-core iPhone for $499 with a 2/yr contract, and keep the current model as the "cheaper" iPhone at current pricing, lol.

Another new phone? Crazy considering a few short months ago when my contract ended I couldnt find even a 3GS at any local dealer - and they laughed at me when I asked if they had any 4's. Not sure how their distribution channels work, but, if they don't have the phones on the shelves, they're losing market share.

We went from dealer to dealer looking for a 3GS or a 4 for the better part of 6 weeks - all the while Galaxy S's and Torches sat there ready to be taken home. In the end, I got a torch instead.

A better measure of Apple's fortunes would be based on their (in)ability to meet demand versus their ability to bring new unobtainable products to market.
