old vcr won't connect to old tv

2003 Samsung dvd/vcr player won't connect to 2005 Panasonic TV

What cable are you using?
Have you selected the correct "source" on the tv?
Is the vcr on as vcr, dvd, or perhaps even tuner? (It may be connected but you can't see anything as it's not playing anything if that makes sense)
