On and Off Charging Issues

So this is with my Alienware 17 r2.

Sometimes when I plug the charger into the laptop, it does not charge. Usually to fix this, I kept plugging it out and then plugging the charger back in, which would fix the issue for like 5 minutes. Afterwards, I would have to repeat this again. Whats really perplexing is that after I repeat this cycle for half an hour, the issue would disappear for like a couple of months until randomly the charging issue reappears again.
I want to fix this issue and am confused on whether or not this is a charger related or battery related or motherboard related issue. Any info or help is greatly appreciated.

Most likely the charger or charging port. First step, try another charger. If that does not work, replace the charging jack on the system.
