I don't understand the big objection to the notch. I will take that over a popup that is just asking for mechanical or water damage.

First off the notch is simply terrible design. Companies began copying Apple because they did it first and when Jobs was around, it was a safe bet to copy. But there's absolutely no way he would have ever launched the iPhone with a notch if he was around. How you know the notch is terrible is because no one ever said "this is a great design"...all you ever hear folks say is "I don't mind it" or "I got used to it".

Second, a lot of folks don't use a front facing camera or do so very rarely so it's a perfect solution for many who have no interest in selfies. Yes a new mechanical failure possibility is there but worth the solid and beautiful design of the phone.
