Onkyo Receiver Protect circuit problems

My Onkyo TX-SV444 displays "Protect" then shuts off. Can Protect circuit be reset.
If this is a wiring problem, what is the most likely suspect?

The first thing to check, is you don't accidentally have a speaker wire cut, damaged, or crossed somewhere. Many receivers will go into auto protect if they detect this. If you verify that, you have a short somewhere in the amplification stage of the unit. If you feel capable of taking the unit apart, get a service manual, and multitester, and have at it! If not, you would want to locate your local Onkyo service center, and have them take a look!
