Solved! P6860fx motherboard upgrade

i need to replace the motherboard on my p6860 fx laptop but i want to upgrade and not replace it with the same motherboard. is that possible?

My guess would be no.
If you can find out who made the chassis and motherboard - you can ask those ODMs.

And might be able to fine a Gateway p6860 fx owner who would already know if anything like you describe would be possible. Or even better, one who has done it successfully.
