With the demise of analog TechTV I am now interested in receiving it via my
Pansat 330A receiver. As many know, the satellite audio is AC-3 so I get no
audio when tuned to TechTV.

I need to learn how or if I might convert the digital (SPDIF) audio output
on my 330A so I can hear what is being said.

There have been a few posts of late on this NG mentioning that the Pansat
2500A has AC-3 audio.
On the Pansat page (http://www.pansatusa.com/products.htm) both the 330A and
the 2500A are both spec'd as having digital audio in SPDIF.
Are these receivers different in spite of the published specs?

Where might I get further information on these audio formats so I would not
have to ask these questions?

Presumably you just plug the SPDIF output into a stereo with an SPDIF input
that does AC3 decoding. Stereos that do this are all over the place nowadays
because of the ubiquity of DVD players that do the same thing. If there's a
menu item that lets you choose PCM or Raw to send to the SPDIF output, select Raw.

If you think you've got it rough, I've got a Pansat 2000A that doesn't even
have an S-video out, much less a digital audio out, although I have Dish
Network too, so it's not a big deal.

A digital audio output does not necessarily mean that the
receiver supports or passes AC-3 Contact the dealer you
purchased the receiver from and ask them if it will either
pass or process AC-3, if not your best option would be
to purchase an AC-3 compliant receiver.

If you go to http://www.dolby.com/search/ and search for
"AC-3" you will find some info there.

http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/News/AC3.pdf also has some
AC-3 info

This didn't occur to me earlier, but is there an audio button on
the remote. If so it possibly may open a menu that will allow you
to activate the digital audio output.

The APID for that channel is 100. If this is not defined correctly
you never will get audio.
