This is why the USA needs TORT reform bad. These idiots wouldn't try this crap if they knew they had to pay for all the court costs, including the defendant's, when it gets thrown out for shear ridiculousness. Unless of course it's the 9th Circuit Court in San Francisco. They will take any case if a big bad corporation is getting sued.

[citation][nom]svdb[/nom]Other democratic countries around the world have equally bloated bureaucracy, and yet such cases are removed even before they could reach a court and waste everyone's time and (tax) money. But of course those countries didn't surrender their democracy to corporations...[/citation]
“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” - Thomas Jefferson

Pretty much what patent trolling is all about.

[citation][nom]freggo[/nom]How about a simple Rule Change : no working example, no patent...[/citation]

Not really a good idea. You could have a good idea and patent it but you don't have the start up funds to get it off the ground yet.

So while you're looking for investors, a big company with billion on hand comes and takes your idea and makes a prototype first, by your logic if would be totally ok for them to steal your idea just because they had the money to do so.

Do you really want to make it where its ok for big companies to take your idea just because they have deeper pockets?

Old way to make a buck. Think of something neat, make it, sell it, cash the check.

New way to make a buck. Think of something totally generic like a "way to use eyes to look at things sideways", write it down, do nothing. Wait till someone years later thinks of the same thing and makes something with it, hire lawyers, sue them for making something.

what does this have to do with my pc being faster and better.
this is not law review magazine, i suggest the author seeks employment in legal field of publishing if he can't be bothered to find something about technology to write about.
sick and tired of ambulance chasing writers reporting about patent trolls that have nothing to do with the job of tech reporting.

ok, this proves that the united states patent office has no idea what they're doing. so, in knowing that you can patent such a generalized piece of technology, i should submit a patent for multi-player online games which allow multiple users to interact through gaming software online in a virtual world (assuming no one already owns the patent for online games). or even patent the generalized use of images online to attract users to a specific product or service (assuming no one already owns the patent for online advertising)... and if i word it correctly to make it sound like something new the patent office will of course grant it...

These shouldn't be called Patent Trolls, they should be called Patent Talibans, should be recognized as a terrorist threat and the "War on Terror" should be aimed at them. :)
