Hi.

I am trying to connect my PC to my TV. I do not have the option of HDMI as my laptop doesn’t have an HDMI port. I am using a VGA for picture and a RCA/3mm jack for sound. The picture is perfect but I can’t seem to get the sound out through the TV speakers. When the 3mm jack is plugged into my laptop there is no sound. How can I get sound? Do I need to buy a new cable or is it just a setting that needs to be changed?

The 3.5mm jack should work just fine. You'll likely have to enter your "sound" settings and ensure you're using the 3.5mm output.

Solution
Can you explain in further in step by step detail?

It doesn’t give me an option to select the jack. Under play back options it’s just “speakers” but no sound.

Under "playback devices" you should see something like this.

Your options will vary, but "speakers" are typically the native output of your PC.
You should have something showing "3.5mm", "TV" or something to that effect. Might just be trial & error to confirm which specifically.

Just to confirm, you are attached to an audio "out" port on your PC and not to the "mic" jack??

The only option i have available is speakers. I have connected the aux cable to the correct laptop port.

Could I be connecting something else wrong? Back of the tv perhaps?

It's possible, and the most likely option.

Can you post pics, perhaps? Laptop, and rear of the TV... potentially even the cable itself?
