pictures not shown on computer

My digital camera is a Kodac(14mega pixels) I can't seem to transfer the pictures to my computer,and it is plugged into my computer. When I turn on my camera it only makes a noise and nothing else. Please help me.

Buy a card reader instead of connecting your camera to your computer.
Plug the card reader into your PC, then remove memory card from camera and push it into the correct slot on the reader.
