My husband and I often have conversations with my parents and we use speakerphone to do so.

With my old Pixel 2, everything worked fine. We could roam through a large living space and everyone could be heard clearly.
Now, with the Pixel 6, my parents said our sound is muffled and if we're not both seated very close to the phone, it doesn't pick both of us up.

This issue extends to me when using the phone on my own, hands free, phone set in an open/clear location, and me moving around perhaps in the kitchen or living area to chat but also clean up or food prep. They say I go in and out very quickly depending on what direction I'm facing or how far from the device I am.

Again, this has never been an issue with other phones.

Tried with Bluetooth on and off

I took the case off of the phone.

Ambient sound has been tried both on and off (just in case).

We have called both parent's phones and the same issue occurred.

Any ideas? It's one of the #1 things I do with my phone besides photos - and I'm VERY disappointed after years of waiting for this type of upgrade to Pixel!
