Please Help Me!!!

I have a HP Pavilion dv6, I will attach a picture down below to see the specs. It is about 5 years old and it's now slow. Well, ever since I have got the laptop, the fans are ridiculously loud and the laptop gets so hot you could probably cook bacon on it. Anyway, is there a way I can get my laptop up to speed again and fix the fan noise/temperature? I am prepared to open the computer up and install new parts etc. I want the laptop really quick, I want the laptop to edit and render videos quite a bit, Thanks in Advance. Also, please make sure the part fits inside of my laptop before naming some. Thanks.

Updating your RAM to 8GB and replacing your Hard Drive with an SSD is about all you can do to a laptop. It will make it faster, but not a night and day change.
I'm right behind you with my 4 year old laptop. There really is nothing you can do to improve performance dramatically.

Time for a new laptop, or if you're really serious about rendering and editing videos, you will get a desktop computer.

Well first off your rating seems to be quite good for a computer of that age. Second is your cpu seems to be quite old and the cpu clock speeds are quite low for even a mobile cpu. To get a better cpu I recommend looking for places within a comfortable radius of where you live to see if they have newer compatible mobile i7 CPU's and if they are able to install it (Only if you aren't as tech savvy and don't know how to install a new cpu) Because buying a CPU for a laptop off the internet is quite difficult to find compatible ones. And then installing them is a huge pain. The ram Is very simple to fix. Just buy any laptop ram (Of course find compatible ram.) And install it. It is recommended to buy 1600MHz ram as that is just about today's standards for everyday use and SOMETIMES editing. And IF POSSIBLE buy 1866MHz ram or the highest your laptop can support. Also you should upgrade the ram to 2x 4 GB or if supported get 2x 8 GB that is within budget! And then an added bonus for it to speed it up even more is to buy a 2.5 Inch Solid State Drive. If I remember correctly any laptop that supports SATA Disk Drives are compatible with ANY SATA SSD's. If you have ide then you're out of luck on that. But if its a sata port then get the highest capacity and highest spped SSD that suites your budget. And you can get a cheap can of any kind of compressed gas/air to blow out dust in the vents and keyboard.

I hope I helped! I would like to hear feedback from you on how my support was if it was a 1 for bad, anything in between 1 and 10 for "Good I guess" Support or 10 for excellent support. And If it helped your problem then you can make this as your best answer.

@JQB45 Yes that is true. Those don't improve performance by a ton but it works good and usually helps. And yes a desktop pc within the 800-1000 Dollar range is usually good enough to handle performance. But if you don't have the money for a good desktop pc then the upgrades I mentioned are pretty decent and should help the temps and performance. And then a free upgrade to Windows 10 will up its performance even more!

Well 8GB 1333 MHz Is the best choice for an upgrade. And I sent you a private message about different laptops/desktops because its pretty much time for you to get a new laptop or desktop. That laptop you currently have won't be able to handle many tasks within maybe 1-2 years as technology advances. Its time to really start thinking about a new one. I sent you a pm as I said earlier in this reply about that. I just need you to reply with your Budget range and the tasks you need to perform and I can get you links to the best deals for your range and needs.

NOTE: That I need you to respond but so I can give you IDEAS on good top notch high performance pc's for when you do decide you need the new pc. You can keep your pc as long as it can last. But this is just for the purpose of helping you find good pc deals.

The best you can do about RAM updates is to check with the manufacturer and / or the manual that comes with the laptop. If you don't still have the laptop you can usually find them under support on your manufacturer's website.

First get rid of any dust in the laptop if you can. Then check if the fans are working the way they should.

Second apply thermal paste as it is most likely worn out.

Third remove any junk software that may have collected over they years.

Fourth run a cleaner software like ccleaner to get rid of temp files.

Fifth make sure you have the latest drivers for all the components.

A software I really recommend is advanced systemcare.
Its free but free isn't the full version. The first time you clean it just select ALL options and wait. Then click clean. Once that is done go to the turbo boost page and boost it. Click on all UNNECESSARY tasks then keep clicking next but make sure that you click on gaming performance as it usually helps the performance very well. Then make sure to switch to the system care power plan for the battery to get the most performance.

NOTE: That this WILL significantly reduce battery power but at the same time give you better performance.
