this story released on the same day that there's a bill in the house that would allow the president to shut down the entire internet in a "cyber emergency"... And you people think they wont try to force all porn sites onto XXX domains? You're fooling yourselves! When it comes to usurping power and freedom look no further than Washington DC! The financial regulatory reform bill passed today too... in there is nothing about regulating fannie and freddie (the 2 companies that now hold 96.2% of all mortgages in the country), and allows the sec. of the treasury to access anyone's bank account with out a warrant! But no they wont force your precious porn sites on to an easily blocked xxx domain nooo that'll never happen right? You people need to pay more attention to the ACTUAL news and not just whats cherry picked on THG and DailyTech.

It is as simple as changing .com to .xxx - so simple a 5 year old can do it since all you do is edit the DNS entry from .com to .xxx.

It's a great idea because now browsers can implement a block on .xxx sites to keep kids and company employee's alike from viewing porn.

They're not forced to switch. It's entirely up to them, they're just encouraged to do so. This issue was covered in the previous related article.

Its like 15 years too late... People dont care about the TLD classification or meaning anymore. Everybody went for the .com in the late 1990s. Now it doesn't mean anything.

What if the porn sites don't want to move? Lets say I have my porn site which is making tons of money, why would I want to put my business at risk and change the name, why should I have to move. No one owns the internet. I know how to keep my childeren away from porn site and if you want to keep your job, don't search for porn while you're at work.

No one is forcing anyone to move anywhere, at least for now and lets hope that doesn't change.

This has fail written all over it. Rule #1 in business: Location Location Location! LOL at thinking any business (porn or other wise) is going to give up their profitable place of business on main street, to move to a less trafficked, more filtered location. Not going to happen. They will not voluntarily abandon .com land.

don't be fooled this is just another attempt to control something that America has had a problem with since white people came into power (i am white and american) I watched a documentary about the Rating systems on movies and trust me, the last thing the U.S. Citizens want is another bullshit way of the government trying to control everything we see and then get in front of boob tube and lie straight to our faces saying it's "random" American families making these decisions.
