Solved! Porte'ge' R930 Series - Must stay close to the router ?

Hoping to learn why I must now stay within 25 feet or so of the router to maintain wireless internet connection. Never an issue for a number of years, but over the past few weeks I drop the connection unless I stay close to the router. Thx !

Have you do anything inside the laptop since this started happening? Sounds almost like the antenna leads have become detached from the wifi adapter.

Many thanks for the quick reply. Nothing has ever been done inside this laptop. I would say it has had "gentle" use, except for our cat who has stood on the keyboard before I could intervene. This episode forced me to use a mouse, as the cursor would not move otherwise.
Likely a coincidence, but just passing along the history. I did wonder about antenna issues. Please advise if there is any fix for this kind of thing. Many Thanks !

As seen in this review, wifi signal strength isn't the best with this model even when new.

It is possible to replace the on-board wifi device, but will take some patience.

Given the system's age, you might want to consider a newer, more capable laptop.

Another option is to try a USB wifi adapter to get a bit more range.
