Possible to connect a turntable to a TV?

Hello,
Can I connect a turntable directly to a TV (flatscreen) without a receiver? I just want to use my TV speakers to listen. Can someone give me directions how to do this if it is possible? Thanks!

Very unlikely to work directly. The signal from the turntable's phono pickup is at a very low level and needs equalisation -- this is normally done via a regular hifi amplifier. A line level signal from the amp's tape output might then be fed to a TV or other devices.

Now that some amplifiers are appearing without a phono input there are adapters available for those who still need to connect a turntable. Visit a hifi store or Tandy/Maplins.
