Power plan on a Laptop

Solution
Power Saving setting will likely result in poor performance in both realms. Balanced is a good general setting to use for those tasks. I will add that High Performance will provide the best performance but will also generate the most heat. None of those settings should cause harm to the laptop.
I will recommend using a laptop cooler any time you are editing/gaming. Keeping the components cooler should prolong the life of the laptop.
I will also recommend monitoring your temps (CoreTemp and SpeedFan are good programs for that). Monitoring is good since it allows you to note if things aren't quite "right" (like higher than normal temps)
