in relation to processors specifically, which would be the most
suitable/powerful for use in a notebook/laptop which will be primarily used
for video editing

Well, your choice is between PM i P4 and couple other (don't count AMD 64,
because there is still no video editing application for it, I think).

And you need power, more then portability or energy saving, I assume. So,
choice is simple: P4. No PM can match performence for this price and even PM
2G, the quickest PM you can buy now, is still not more powerful then P4 3.2
and cost way, way more.

?!?!?!?!?! AMD-64 will run any video editing application that a P4 or any
other x86 processor will run.

More to the point, the P4 for whatever reason seems to do exceptionally well
in video editing benchmarks--it's the one area where it still has a clear
performance advantage over the competition.

Opinions will vary of course this is mine.

I have three Dells and recommended one to my Wife's employer for her use at
work. All have been excellent performers.

Of my personal machines, (a Dimension 8200 and Dimension 8400 that run 24/7,
and one laptop, an Inspiron 8500 that is on at least 8 hours every day) I've
only had one hardware "failure." An Nvidia video card fan got very loud in
the Dimension 8200. Two emails to tech support and I had a new card in 3
days. Stability and performance wise I've never had a single problem with
any of them. (that I didn't cause myself tinkering ;-)

That said, their telephone Tech Support is nothing like it used to be so
your level of expertise and potential need for tech support should be taken
into consideration. It appears however that tech support has taken a dive
pretty much across the board in the tech industry so you may be hard pressed
to find something better. I *hear* Apple still has good support.

I own both. Dell (Inspiron 8200) as well as several Apple Machines.

Dell's support USED to be outstanding and at the time I praised the company.

What they've managed to do in the past 12-18 months blows my mind ... they
now have about the worst support and customer service I've ever experienced.
(How do you do that in such a short period of time?)

That said: I still don't have a problem with their hardware. If you don't
mind dealing with them (You'll need the patience of a monk) then they are a
good choice.

Apple STILL has fantastic support. It's one of the main reasons I enjoy
being a customer to their company; they never fail to impress me. Apple is a
whole different world though - Don't buy an Apple and plan to run your
Windows software through emulation. You'll be disappointed. But: If you
don't mind switching to Mac software then you'll be pleased as most things
are simpler and more straightforward. (Fun even!)

Yes, of course, but with old fanioned 32 bits way, unless aplication will be
able to use its 64 bit and is there such an aplication for video editing out
there? So, yes, AMD 64 can be a consideration as well as Celeron and other
invetion, but ....

....with video editing, 3d renderings, Photoshop and so on, NOW, P4 gives the
best performance (and price).

Finaly, there will be of course PM 3G beating P4, but not now and not soon
at the price.

Except that AMD64 in 32-bit mode is still faster than most 32-bit
processors. It is certainly in a different class from any Celeron.

Not necessarily for video editing and the like--it seems that Intel managed
whether by intent or good luck to come up with a good set of optimizations
for that purpose.
