program to plan trips and compare on foot

im wondering if there is a program or maybe a way to use google maps that will let me lay out a point a to point b and tell me the distance, only catch is i want to map out the journey threw short cuts ,trails catwalks ect way that cars cant travel. i want to be able to map out 2-3 maybe 4 ways and compare distance which is shortest

Login with your Google accounts to Google Maps, then click to the left of search box, "My Maps". From there - Create maps, and you can put markers and measure distance between them.

Well...I doubt they have every square meter of every forest marked.
You'll just have to play with it and see.
