Programmatically switch between headphones and speakers without unplugging headphones

I have a samsung laptop with Realtek sound card. When the headphones are not plugged the sound coming from the speakers and when they are plugged, of course not. Is there a way to programmatically switch between headphones and speakers without unplugging headphone jack?

Physically when the jack is inserted it electrically operates a simple switch ... routing the audio through the plug, and disconnecting the speakers. I doubt whether you can use software to change this.
