First off @ nuclearshadow: Sony is not microsoft! with them it's about innovation and being consumer friendly. the reason backward compatibility is now non existant is because those of us who complained and never understood WHAT WE WERE GETTING for $599 OUT THE BOX! was really worth the cash I for one did! after the price drop I bought a 60 gb. As a consumer and gamer sony has provided backward compatibility for the long life of it's current and past games making it more of a value system by playing those games from the system before it (ps2 and ps1) After sonty seen the complaint of so many saying "oh its too high of a price" they listened and said "i know we made the ps3 advanced but many of our consumers seem not to know what they would have in this powerhouse we created" So let's show them but take the features away to make it more affordable." Now you have these people complaining about what they asked for (a cheaper version of perfection at a cost to our true convience of linux, card readers & the GS +EE chips for backward compatiblity) so to those back then who complain "it too high of a price" without doing your research and actually knowing what you COULD'VE gotten instead of the watered down ps3 Pat yourselves on the back!..... U helped dumb down a masterpiece that a few of us out here KNEW what we were getting and can now have the advantage that we all had with the playstation 2 backwards compatibility! along with the other perks the from one game system that you cant achieve without buying some add on or extention (Example usb extention for games like rock band or a card reader add-on the goes through the 2 usb ports on the front)
