I play world of warcraft on and off I have 3 kids so would live to do things with pics. also like games like call of duty and fear, Crysis and other high end games.

I'd wait to see if anyone adds some input here, but I feel that since you have some other things you want to do other than gaming, the P8700 in the Dell would be preferable.

I have a similar question. I’m looking at the following two systems:

Dell Studio XPS 16 with Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (6MB cache/2.8GHz), 6GB DDR3 RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4670 – 1GB, HDD 320 GB 7200RPM

Asus G51Vx-A1 with Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 (6MB cache/2.0GHz), 4GM DDR2 RAM, GeForce GTX 260M – 1GB GDDR3, HDD 640GB 7200RPM

Both systems with the specs above have the same price. I can’t decide which system is more powerful and will perform better during gaming and other system intensive applications. Dell for one seems to have a better CPU 2.8Ghz 28% faster processor even though Asus has quad core. DDR3 is also 22% faster then DDR2 of Asus, Dell also comes out having 2GB more RAM on the other hand G51 has 30% more productive video card 260M is the generation above ATI 4650. My question is: would the more powerful CPU and larger, faster RAM of Dell increase the performance of a system to a level where it can easily compete with G51’s GTX 260M card even when playing video games?

^With games it depends. If you are playing FPS games, you are going to want the better GPU. RTS games though seem to like a more powerful CPU.

With programs it depends if the program is designed to take advantage of multiple cores. If it isn't, the the faster clocked T9600 will shine.

Asus has a couple of models of the G51 that come with dual cores instead of the quad, but they are tough to find in stock. If you could find one, I'd say that would be the best of both worlds.

edit: Though for the price you could probably get one of these: http://www.sagernotebook.com/product_customed.php?pid=160092&action=customize
