looking at the photos, I see Samsung K4B4G0846D BYK0 chipset, which is basically DDR3-1600 1.35v DDR3 Ram
so that is a hint as well to match it on your5 additional ram to purchase.

yes that does indeed looks like a expansion slot for ram, what is the make and model of your laptop? just to check user manual to confirm
