Rebate eligibility?

I signed up for Cingular service a few days ago at Best Buy and chose the
V551 @ $49. While traveling out of town for the holidays, I noticed that the
phone would not last on a full charge for more than one day. Also, I kept
getting this blank white screen requiring me to power off and on the phone..

I stopped by another Best Buy to see what they could do to help me. The
answer was nothing. Not wanting to travel back without a phone, I activated
a new line and purchased another phone (mpx220) that had a $300 mail-in
rebate. I don't plan to keep the newly activated line now that I am home. I
really like the mpx220 though, and want to keep it in place of the V551.

I returned to my local Best Buy yesterday, told them the story, returned
the V551, and had its phone number switched to the mpx220. They said I would
still be eligible for the $300 mail-in rebate because I was within 30 days
of activating my service and Circular permits one phone exchange during the
first 30 days.

Can anyone confirm this? I can't afford to not get the rebate.

That is true. I switched a Motorola v400 for a v600 on day 29, and got
the v600 rebate. Took 4 months, but it finally arrived. Xerox everything
you mail in.

How is Xerox Corp. involved? Are they some sort of middle-ware company
between Cingular and Motorola?

V551 power management is poor, especially when using Bluetooth and/or
GPRS/EDGE.

I'm not certain I understand the context of your statement here John.
I've been looking at the V551 for a replacement and intend to be a heavy
user of a BT headset in the car, but the GPRS/EDGE side (and camera) is
inconsequential for me. Is your statement predicated on the battery
just not being robust enough for "normal" usage (whatever that is)?

No, it's simply my observation, based on actual experience, that use of
Bluetooth (and/or GPRS/EDGE) depletes the battery much more rapidly than
comparable phones (e.g., Sony Ericsson Z600).
