Receiver yahama RX- V383
turns on and shuts off . After 3 times goes into protection mode. I reset the receiver turning protect off. How do I diagnose the problem?

It would help if you can procure the schematic.

I would inspect the output capacitors, look for sign of burn/bulge.

I would inspect for liquid damaged, burn, dark, overheated components.

I would measure output transistors with ohmmeter for typical junction voltage drop of ~0.6 volts but if they are MOSFET then I don't remember off the top of my head what they should be.

Youtube videos may help.

Shorting at the loudspeaker terminals is number one cause of such failures.

BTW for many decades now, audio amplifiers don't use output capacitors. The have direct-coupled capacitorless output.

Haventran any wires plugged it in , powered on and shuts off in 2 seconds. Checked compositors and and burns on the board with no signs of damage. Don't have a meter right now. I know there's certain resets you can do but not sure what I'm looking for yet. Also software update but haven't got that far. Hoping it was a common problem with a simple solution. I'll keep researching
