Recommend me a laptop

I just got a job on a racing team so I'm pretty much going to be living out of a suitcase for the next year. I don't have a smartphone or anything so I'm interested in getting a small and basic laptop that I will use just to go on the internet with and that's about it. Definitely something small, portable and durable and for less than $500. I've never owned a laptop before so I have no idea which brands are good.

1. What is your budget?
Under $500

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
Somewhere between 13" and 15"

3. What screen resolution do you want?
Doesn't Matter

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable

5. How much battery life do you need?
4-5 hours would be nice

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Not interested in gaming

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Just browsing internet

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
120GB I guess would be minimum

If all you really want to do is browse the internet, email, notes etc... why not get an iPad or other tablet? You can get an iPad2 for within your budget.

They are durable, long battery life, ultraportable.
