I'm coming to Plasma from my CRT-HDTV. It's a Slimfit Samsung TXT3092WH model that was working perfectly until just recently when I started noticing what might be a small convergence issue.
In any event, I do know a thing or two about Video specs but I thought I'd ask the community here because I simply am not up to date on what flat-screens are doing these days other than to know definitively that contrast ratio and general imaging specs lean me towards Plasma over LCD/LED.
I figure the best thing to talk to you about is my use...
CONTENT:
- DVD, BluRay, and video files from streaming box and PC network setups. Both SD and HD content, with a lot of time spent watching black and white films that I must have looking their best. I'm a filmmaker so I'm very particular about reproducing as faithfully as possible my favourite films.
- Gaming consoles
INPUTS:
- Because of having so many SD and HD devices, various inputs are important to me although I don't need several in quantity because I have input selectors that feed into my receiver.
- I prefer component to HDMI because my receiver doesn't have HDMI inputs.
BUDGET:
This doesn't seem likely but I'd like to stay under 800 euros/1000 dollars
Again, I can't stress enough that standard def looking good is important to me. I dont know what that means in terms of what I need from a screen's specs. I still use VHS and laserdisc (told you, VERY big on classic titles not released on DVD). I can't stand seeing classic films on a flat screen and being able to see pixels even when the film is on a DVD. I am a techie person and more knowledgeable in other areas (computers, gaming, audio) so trust me, I DO know that there are tons of models out there and that to some extent what's BEST for one person isn't right for another and that there is budget to consider but I don't know the plasma market and I'm trying to decipher from infinite online tech sources what's what these days. Any help, recommendations would be great.
