Yes the power of the Ps3 is truly amazing lol... Not. I remember Ps3 fanboys saying " we havnt even unlocked the Ps3's potential yet" lmao. It cant even do stereo 3d without dropping performance by 50%. Its already outdated guys. Pc is the best way to go.

[citation][nom]djtronika[/nom]Dude. Right there with you. I was thinking "what did Tom smoke today?"[/citation]

as did I haha.

But I still find it funny how the console gamers still brag about the power of the PS3 on how its almost just as good as a high end PC.

Its true that the frame rates and res for already released games are lower with 3D enabled but you also have to recognise the fact the these games are not optimised for 3D, also the firmware wouldn't be optimized for 3D seemed so this is their first attempt. When games come out that are designed to be in 3D they will be better.

this should be knowed by now! If u plan to play in 3D even on PCs you will need somethink like 3 way sli or crossfire, a rly fast cpu and 720p max! So its not just a problem on the consoles, its the usual market screaming for new generation of consoles and GPUs! 😉

you knwo what i find upsettign , si all these "3d" technologies are totally dependant on rather or not some one has near perfect vision in both thier left and right eye, i've given thisa shot and since my eye sight is 30/150 i still dont see "3d" and only view image doubling. yeah sucks to be me , or some odd milions of other people with bad vision. in short this is why most these technologies get regulated to trends and fads in the long run , because they require near perfect or perfect vision to see it as intended, and truth be told , that is not the majority. the majority of humans have elss than perfect eye sight and even those with great eye sight often have uneven eye sight (where one eye sees beter than the other) in the long run peopel wil forget aobut this tech if you ask my opinion. especialy if soemthign better comes out

U know the Ps3's gpu is the equivalant to a 8800gts. So its no wonder there having problems. There will always be constraints and restrictions with consoles. Hence the beauty of the Personal Computer. In order to work around this problem game designer work around these obstacles using a dumbed down method for console. Developers know the money is in consoles so they develop games first for consoles then port them too Pc. Thus hurting the Pc gaming genre. Consoles are killing Pc gaming.

[citation][nom]micky_lund[/nom]sky aint actually blue... just in case u didn't knowtho the sun is hot. u got half of it right[/citation]

the sky looks blue to me...

but IF you're going to be a pedant, then sun istn't actually hot either. There is no such thing as temperature (it's just an average of all the energies of the molecules in a given area)

Kamakaz~~~

Er... no. the PS3's GPU is a variant of the GF7800... the 8800GTX wasn't even out at that time. And the 7800GT isn't half the performance of an 8800GTs.

Expect the PS4~5*/Xbox Anti-RROD-720 to come out around 2012~2013 with a GPU that'll be like an ATI HD-7800/GF-GTX-880-UltraPro.

* In Japan, the number "4" is death/badluck... so don't be surprised if they skip to PS5... :)
** Who knows what nvidia will do... they went from gtx280 to gtx 470, blah.

About your part "Consoles are killing Pc gaming." Thats been going on for the past few years. MS is no longer supporting games for Windows... look at how many MS games are for the xbox360 but not for Windows7 with its DX11?! HALO3, HALO Reach? Gears of War 2 and 3? Alan Wake... the list goes on.

For the devleoper, a crappy game on a console will sell more units than some of the better selling titles for PC. WOW doesn't count... as such games are (A) don't require the best hardware (B) don't play well on consoles.

^Hurfburf

Er yes... The ps3's Gpu was at its core using the gf7800 architecture but was specifically reworked for the Ps3. So u cant compare its performance to the 7800 but more like the 8800gts. Also all you really did was reinterate or go into greater depth as to what I was saying.

Just so ya all know, high speed HDMI 1.3 can use all the same features as 1.4 except the integrated ethernet in the 1.4 spec. 3D can absolutely be sent over the PS3s HDMI 1.3.

[citation][nom]bogcotton[/nom]But so much of the data is exactly the same from frame to frame, there is just a slight shift of the image with a little extra info.If this was coded well I would expect only a 5% performance decrease frame for frame. It just seems software guys have lost their artistic passion for coding.[/citation]

3D is more than a shifted image, 3D tries to simulate stereo depth by simulating the imaging naturally done by your eyes.

With non stereo images, depth is done using shadows and highlights to give the look of depth, perspective can be added to further add depth.

in a stereo image; in real life each eye not only sees a shifted image, but you also get a slightly view angle of everything. When close up, you are able to easily see this if you close 1 eye but at a distance you may not notice this at all but within about 1000 feet, the brain can tell the difference and create full depth.

Stereo images require twice as much GPU work (while the images may look completely the same, everything is actually different (even flat objects, including the hud)

The only thing that 3D doesn't need twice of is memory, the same textures and other stuff loaded into memory is the same for both images

the GPU of the PS3 is based on the nvidia 7800 series and it is not much faster than the fastest 7800 available. the reason why we can have good looking games that we didn't see on the PC at the time is because the PS3 (and xbox 360) use a special trick to save GPU cycles for better graphics.

in the PS3 and most other current game consoles, when you look at a scene for example crysis 2
objects close to you are 3D objects with a full 3D mesh, distant scenery is flat (generally a giant sphere or cube surrounding the entire game world with a flat 2D HDR texture placed on it (so different times of day can be simulated from a single image.

clouds can either be flat moving objects if you are not required to go above them with out noclipping
or they can be just random particles surrounding a flat object with additional detail

areas where you interact with are made up of increasingly simplified meshes the further you are away from them.
texture resolution is also lowered for distant objects

dynamic lighting is only applied near by and pre rendered shading is used in the distance

this all allows much better graphics to be simulated, (at the cost of longer load times and and the need for faster system memory (which these consoles have very fast memory and CPU's )

I think its funny at least 4 people didn't know that

I suppose 480p 3D would work, but then they'd have trouble calling it HD gaming 😛

3D is just starting to come into the light, to expect current generation consoles to support it is over stretching the technology. At the time they were launched 3D was just starting to make an entrance into the PC market (and that was using PC video cards which were already more powerful than what the PS3/360 have in them).
