I have a few Suncom Slik Stik controllers have been favorites of mine
for classic games (atari, c64, mame) but the rubber joint between the
stick and the base of many of the controllers has broken, forcing the
joysticks to lean to one side. This seems to be a flaw in the design of
the controller. Has anyone had any luck or experience in fixing these
or redisigning it somehow so it doesn't break?

Good luck, Suncom are IMHO the worse made joysticks for the Atari with
Slik Stiks. In fact I had a Slik Stik and the shaft completely
broke... :p

My advice is to try to find a Wico stick since they last much long...

To each his own - yes they are sturdy but I find the Wicos to be
horrible in the sensitivity area. I like the feel of the Suncoms much
better. I actually may be in the minority here, but my overall
favorites are the original Atari 2600 joysticks.
