Solved! Replace DVD Writer with Blu Ray Writer

We have a Gigabyte P15R5 laptop. It has a DVD Writer Model SN-208. I was wanting to replace that optical with a BR Writer (maybe combo DVD/BR). Other than purchasing the correct size drive, is there any other considerations I need to know about (i.e., can the laptop run a BR, motherboard issues, memory issues, etc.)? I'm not a full-fledged techie, so please respond in English. 😛

If a laptop can run a DVD drive it will run a blue-ray drive. You may need to install software to enable playing blue-ray disks on it though.

Thanks so much. I'm upgrading the SSD cards, and thought it might be a good time to upgrade the optical drive, too. Again, thanks so much for your help.

Do you really need one? Do you watch a lot of movies from disk on your laptop?
