replacing hard drive

I own a Toshiba Satellite L875. I had issues with is and bought another Toshiba Satellite, but it is the L-855D. The hard drives on both laptops are the same. All the numbers match. Can I switch them out?

no. different model, and windows activate only to the model that it came with.

The hard drives should be interchangeable, but the installed OS is not. You would need to get install media from Toshiba for the L875 and use that media to re-install the OS for that laptop. Probably easier (and smarter) to just pick up a new laptop hard drive/SSD and re-installing the OS to the new drive.
