Replacing the battery on a 2 in 1

I have owned several dell laptops over the years (most recently an Xps 15) and one thing that drives me nuts about it is that the battery life is terrible and the chargers only last a short time before getting worn out.

Now I am looking at a Lenovo Flex 3, which has a flexible hinge that lets it bend all the way back in "tablet" mode. The Flex has a 3 Cell 45 Watt Hour Li-Polymer battery, which doesn't seem easy to replace if and when I need to.

My question is, if I buy one of these laptops, will I end up having to buy a replacement battery and spend an hour replacing it soon after I buy it? Phone and tablet batteries seem to only work properly for a few years before they can barely hold a charge. I am hoping for a laptop that will last for a least 7 years or so, hopefully without having to spend $100 on another battery. Are they designed to wear out or are they meant to last the life of the laptop?

Thanks!

So this $900 laptop has the added cost of another $100 battery every 2 years? That sounds pretty awful.

On average we use there laptops about 4-5 years. So we buy one battery and then buy a new laptop instead of investing into another new battery.

The battery for the current Flex2 are about $50.

That additional cost every two years for a battery is cheaper then the ink for a cheap printer.

True, but I would prefer to own a laptop for maybe 7 - 8 years, so it sounds like ill be replacing the battery a few times. I think the battery for the Flex 3 (the higher-end model has a larger battery) is probably more than $50, but then there is the installation. I have looked at the manual and feel like I COULD replace it on my own, but I really don't have much experience taking apart laptops so I might end up having it done professionally.
