Solved! roku tcl tv has no sound for dvd player

Hi and I hope you can help.

Worked great for more than two months. Suddenly one day, the tv sound went out with the Roku soundbar. I was able to fix that easily.

But I can't get any sound with my dvd player. The dvd is not connected to the soundbar - there's no input for that.

I have tried:

turning on and off
checking connections
swapping out the hdmi cords
full reset on the tv
checked all kinds of audio levels

dvd player is also supposed to stream netflix. although I don't use netflix that way, I tried that too and there was no sound.

we're really been enjoying movies on the new tv dvd set up and I'm ripping my hair out trying to figure out what's wrong.

DVD connected to TV with HDMI. Soundbar connected to TV with optical or HDMI-ARC. Correct?
Check the DVD player audio set up menu.
Try changing the audio output type in the DVD player audio menu. An older DVD may require you to set HDMI as your audio output.
You can also try changing the audio output type in the TV audio menu.
