Well, basic rule of thumb here is: If you don't know whether or not you should root your phone, then you probably shouldn't because you don't need to.
Honestly, the average user will find very little added functionality in it aside from being able to remove a bunch of bloatware that comes preinstalled. Unless you have a specific reason to root your phone, or a certain app you really want that requires root access, you're probably better off avoiding the potential headache.
