I was reading another thread that is closed on the subject.
And it was closed prematurely.
Let me just state that i hate RS-232 but many critical applications still use it for system programming and downloads or firmware and such.
For 90% of equipment a USB-to-Serial(keyspan) or Express Card WILL do the trick.
However.... They WILL NOT work when the voltage has been altered on the serial port. NO USB can meet the difference in voltage.
Some PLCs do this.
All Rauland-Borg Equipment does this. (healthcare)
Fire Alarm equipment does this.
WE NEED SOME REAL LAPTOPS TO DEPLOY!
You CANNOT have a ROM being loaded fail halfway due to a limitation in a hacked device.
Last to have one was a Dell..i forget the model. they are discontinued.
