[citation][nom]derkman[/nom]If Apple will ever decide to make a TV this how the process will go:1. Apple releases a TV. It lacks many features that HDTVs have had for years.2. Next year, release a new TV with a FEW features that were missing in the first generation and market it as magical and revolutionary.3. Repeat step 2 over and over for every generation.[/citation]

Step 1 - Apple releases a product which has the fastest hardware of any device in its genre, with the most and highest quality apps.

Step 2 - Some people stuck in the 80's complain due to lack of SD card slot in this wireless world, the rest of the world doesn't care given the vast amount of alternatives and cheap accessories which allow use of SD cards (or replaceable batteries, or HDMI etc.)

Step 3 - Apple products outsell all the competitors combined.

Step 4 - Consumer satisfaction surveys reveal that Apple products are the favourite, with Samsung (the leading Android competitor) 2nd bottom.
http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/05/its-official-cell-phone-users-most-satisfied-with-apple-not-so-much-with-rim/

Step 5 - Angry haters cry on tech forums that the 'mainstream' option that the phone their 'less tech savvy' mate owns is actually better than their 'cheap alternative'.

Lets compare to Android release cycle?

1 - Release phone which is as close to a copy of an iPhone as possible without breaching copyright laws but with slower hardware and a laggy, buggy, freezing operating system with poor battery life, connected to an inferior app store, but add a little plastic SD card slot for slow file access. Allow battery to be replaced because it will need to be far quicker than if it was an Apple.

2 - 6 months later, notify users that the phone they bought 6 months ago will not receive the latest software update, they will need to buy the new phone.

3 - Release iterative 'improvement' to the phone which barely catches up with the 7 month old hardware of Apple, market it as 'inspired by nature' - because nature produces bulky electricals with oversized screens. Be sure to add a slightly inferior copy of the innovations Apple added to their phones half a year earlier.

4 - Be sure to come second bottom in customer satisfaction surveys but take advantage of the irrational Apple haters who will allow you to milk them for all that they are worth even if your product is massively inferior.

5 - Convince those irrational guys that producing slower hardware at the same price point as Apple, using free open source software is actually evidence that Apple is too expensive.

6 - Rinse customers and repeat

I cant believe he actually admitted to Step 2. first, "cheap accesory" and "apple" dont really make sense together. Second, why the hell would I want to buy an accesory. third, SD Card slot is always a welcome feature instead of a locked down phone which you have to completely upgrade(buy a new one) to get more memory. Fourth, apple rarely ever releases superior tech on their phones. Fourth, you have no idea how lithium ion batteries(which power nearly every electric mobile device including apple and android) work. They all degrade and sadly they all suck on phones. Only difference is you have to pay extra to replace the one on the iphone.

learn your facts dude before making a fool of yourself.

why would Apple haters read and comment about Apple???? go read about samsung. I used to work for samsung in UK. Their engineers went and bought a Sony DVR to see how it was made, because their devices did not pass some health test regarding harmful waves. Samsung and android, are copy n paste. It is easy to give people what they want in technology, its hard to give them something new, which only APPLE does. If it wasn't for APPLE, you would still be using Symbian and some shitty devices.

a retina display wouldn't be a bad idea at all - use 1080p for normal HDTV uprezzed to retina and then use the full higher res for the gui

+1. Also when Apple copies other manufactures features or buy them, don't forget the isheep will believe apple created it and everyone is copying them.

I cant wait to hear from "getreal" to see his excuses and tell us that Apple is the best because he said so.

Apple will never make it in the market unless people buy into the overpriced Apple logo.

Anyone that knows anything about TV's can tell you that Plasma's have the best picture quality and refresh rate. You cant beat a Panasonic V series or Samsung Plasma.

"a retina display wouldn't be a bad idea at all"

Keep in mind that based on the definition of retina display, HDTVs are already 'retina'. It has to do with being able to see individual pixels with normal eyesight from a normal viewing distance.

From about 10-12 feet away, I certainly cannot see any individual pixels on my 65" 1080p TV-- Maybe at like 3' I could, but that would hardly be called a normal viewing distance.

1 - Did you miss the part in Step 2 where I explained to you the modern world doesn't use SD cards? Also, you don't have to buy an Apple accessory, so your point is flawed (Apple has THE MOST third party accessories). Thirdly, if you desperately wanted to use SD cards and also have the largest app store, software support, battery life and fastest hardware, you wouldn't mind paying a couple of quid to add an SD card connector to your iPhone, which sticks out like 1cm. Just like you can buy portable phone chargers which take up less space than a spare battery.

2 - SD Card is only welcome to a tiny minority of people who need it and aren't capable of working around it. Which is not many.

3 - Any normal consumer would have to upgrade ANY PHONE to get more memory. There's nothing 'locked down' about the iPhone at all, in fact given that Apple actually offers software support for devices 2-3 years old you're far less locked down with Apple than you are with Android.

4 - Apple never releases superior tech on their phones? For the last 7 months nothing has been able to even remotely touch its CPU/GPU combination. The SG3 released 7 months later is JUST ABOUT catching up to the GPU and a cheap Siri knock off. What exactly do you think is revolutionary about all the slower Android phones?

5 - It doesn't cost you any more to change a battery in an iPhone - you just go to the shop and do it. Batteries in iPhones do last longer, that has been proven in numerous studies. If you had a clue about how battery technology worked and hadn't decided to make a fool out of yourself, you would know that a whole range of factors are relevant in determining lifespan of battery, from peak/min/average power draw to charging patterns and speed to size, temperature, etc. The combination of design in Apples products means that they last far longer, so much so that I know of nobody who's had to ever get a battery replaced in an iPhone.

your point about the SD Card is a few years ahead of our time. in our day and age a camera without an sd card slot is worthless. And a phone with limited space isnt as appealing as a phone which you can add an extra 64gb of space to it.

the reason i personally like sd cards on android phones is because the slot is tucked away nicely behind the battery in most cases, and not sticking out 1 cm under your phone at an extra cost. to get more memory, any "normal" consumer would expect to get it by buying an SD card. what I meant by locked is literally locked down with those dreaded patented screwdrivers. IMO and without a doubt in most of smartphone users opinions(if you ask them randomly), a phone without an SD card slot is outdated. running a phone with only 32gb (example), is like running a modern gaming pc with only 500gb. theres alot of space on it, but its going to run out fast and youll have to start erasing stuff.

Buying Loewe makes a lot of sense. They are very good at industrial design and exorbitant prices while the innards of their TVs are just so so (ring a bell?). They used to make the best CRTs in the industry some 15 years ago. They never mastered flat panels, though.

I'd say it's a perfect match.

Here is my new investment idea.

(1) Buy a lot of stock in a small-to-medium electronics company
(2) Spread rumors that Apple is buying that company
(3) Sell stock at 1.5x the price...

:)
