Samsung Galaxy S25 has an underrated feature all other phones should copy

As a regular user of Dex I am a fan. I don't believe it is ready to replace my laptop but when I visit client sites, service stations or just need to respond to emails or update a document it is a life saver.
I do also have a lapdock (Crowview note) which coupled with simple usbc hot desks I visit just keeps me productive when out and about. My work phone and personal phone both support Dex so it was easier for me to justify the admittedly not that high cost of the lapdock.
Try it, you might like it 😈

I keep checking on DEX (S24 Ultra), it seems to be dieing, only up to 1080p on a single monitor. features have been stuck for awhile.
Maybe because they are still on USB 3.2.

Apple is also stuck on one screen for docking the tablet, but resolution fits a 49in ultra wide.

DeX runs up to 4K in 16:9, or 1440p in 21:9. If you're only seeing 1080p, it's because of the adapter or cable you're using, or because your display doesn't support a DeX-compatible native resolution. You can work around the adapter/cable issue by using Good Lock's MultiStar module and going into the I <3 Samsung DeX settings to enable high resolution display on all devices.

USB 3.2 is more than capable of 4K.

I run Dex from my Fold 5 at 3440x1440 on my ultrawide monitor.

The argument:
So why would it make DeX too good, when it could also sell you a Galaxy Book and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra for all those times when a phone just won’t cut it?
Does not hold water as a general rule and I'm really sick of seeing it used. I bought a Z Fold because I don't want a tablet. I use DeX because I don't want a standalone PC/laptop, let alone one made by Samsung (they tend to be big, bulky, and ugly).

Having what amounts to a PC for the vast majority of needs in my pocket, ready to dock to my USB-C workstation in the office or at home with my USB-C ultrawide monitor that has an integrated USB hub for my peripherals (i.e. both are a single USB-C connection to my Fold to get DeX up and running) is an ideal workflow for me.

If I ever need to "get work done" on the go, that's why I have a Fold. Really, the only thing I'd like aside from more "full desktop" applications on Android is for DeX to be usable directly on my Fold's inner display like you can on a Tab. I have a compact folding Bluetooth keyboard with integrated trackpad that I keep in my everyday carry bag. Between that and my Fold, I can do pretty much anything I need to do on the go away from the desktop workstations.

team, Samsung has discontinued Dex. It wont work on a S25 Ultra. Not sure why we're even talking about using it.

Again, Dex has been deprecated, and Samsung suggests using link to windows, which is a TERRIBLE and weak replacement.

DeX absolutely works on the S25. It has not been deprecated.

You're referring to "DeX on PC," which was never meant to be "DeX." It was absolutely made redundant by Windows Phone Link/Link to Windows. DeX on PC was basically like a trial version of DeX. It was limited and janky, and frankly gave DeX a bad name.

Good to know, Will have to check to see if Good Lock can give more resolution options, this was off the USB C connected to the ultra wide screen, that worked when connected to a M4 iPad.

Specifically, in Good Lock's MultiStar module, you'll select I <3 Samsung DeX and toggle on the "high resolutions for external display" option. This will override the hardware ID check that the phone does to permit resolutions beyond 1080p on adapters/cables/devices that aren't officially supported.

Fold and Tab devices have this functionality baked in by default so they don't need to use this toggle, but the standard S devices do, unless you use an officially supported adapter like a Samsung DeX Station, DeX Dock, etc.
