Samsung HT-J5500 Sound

I need to know how to correctly connect my blu ray home theatre system to Sky TV.

I have HDMI from the Sky box to the TV and a optical digital audio from the TV to the home theatre. I then have HDMI from the home theatre to TV for the blu ray.

The problem is there is no sound from Sky tv unless I unplug the HDMI from the TV to Home theatre.

Clearly I'm making a simple mistake, but I don't know what it is

Check the TV audio menu.
You may have ARC turned on instead of the optical audio output.
If the HTS and TV both have ARC and the HTS is plugged into the HDMI-ARC input then use that instead of the optical cable. No difference in quality either way.
