Hi, I'm doing some digging to figure out which of the two sound bars I should buy but I can't seem to track any differences between them except that the simple model is last year's and is half price than the R model (£350 vs £600). Also, the former has run out of stock in most stores.

It seems that R is mostly advertised for the multiroom compatibility but I can see on samsung's website that previous model supports that as well:

Note that these two models are british versions so I'm not sure if they exist in US eshops (in case you search there).

Literally 4 points vs 8. 5.1 usually includes a center speaker.

Not much of an audiophile myself, I have a Visio sound bar for my Visio TV, mostly so I can use one remote.
The more expensive one supports 8.1 surround sound, the less expensive one 4.1. Seems to be the major difference.

You're right but that doesn't make sense that an older model would have 8.1 sound and the new one 4.1. Is there a difference to how the sound is distributed?
