Screen is black

My laptop is compaq presario cq 56 it starts as usual but the screen is black, fan is running but caps light blinks

Hi,

Do you still see the Compaq screen when it boots up and before it goes to the black screen?
- Do a hard reset first, remove the battery and AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and see if it will load into your desktop screen.
- Try connecting an external monitor and see if you'll see any display from it, if you'll get a display from it press the Windows key + P at the same time and select Display Only.
- If these doesn't work try loading in Safe Mode. While the laptop is booting up repeatedly press on F8 until it loads Advanced Boot Options then select Safe Mode.
- If all these will not work your may need to perform a complete factory reset.
