Screen on acer 5920g laptop shows only vertical coloured lines

the screen on my acer aspire 5920g laptop only shows vertical coloured lines. please help

when switched on all you can see on the screen is certical lines. you can hear the machine is running and it switches off when you hit the power butten. problem started when i replaced the batery charger with a generic one
