Screen Saver or Display off?

hi. for a laptop, is it better to have a screen saver or have display turned off after a few(10) mins? i occasionally step away from my laptop so the display turns off but i was wondering if its better for the monitor to just run a screen saver? which one prolongs the life of the laptop monitor?

i dont think you will notice any difference.my desktop monitor just shuts off after 10min on no activity and its 6years old.
