Hi, does anyone know where to download this tool?
It is used to change the service tag on the dell computers.

Go to dell.com, type in svctag.exe in the search field, and the 27.5 kb file
can be downloaded.

You can get the utility at either site, but Bill's suggested site has a TON
of stuff. Nice job Bill !

No the tool you are talking about is not available for general
download as it is a dell engineer specific tool. It is done this way
since it can be used to clear asset tag information from machines
which obviously lends itself to the possibility for misuse and abuse.
This is frustrating as it is sometimes the case that machines come in
incorrectly asset tagged (infact out of our last batch of 400 about 8
had incorrect tags). This is very annoying when you use a system like
LanDesk to manage your PC's and the info you see on here does not
match the info you on the side of the machine.

So far I have managed to obtain one version but from what I see it
will only work for laptops.

And sorry, just to clarify.

The "user" version or publicly available version will allow you to set
a service tag on a machine that has never had the service tag set
(i.e. it is blank). It will allow you to set it once and once only.
After that you need the internal dell version which includes the
necessary exe's to remove the service tags.

The other approach is to locate the necessary eeprom chip on the
motherboard and short the necessary pins in order to reset the chip,
this will blank the service tag and allow you to set a new one.

This option requires a good knowledge of taking dell laptops to bit's.
If you sign up to their DCSE site you can get good materials there
