[citation][nom]wardencl[/nom]Honestly....Nintendo is now seen primarily as a child's toy, that in most cases, ends up in the hall closet after the "new car" smell wears off. Anyone in this world that is or at least calls themselves a gamer owns one or a combination of: PS3, 360, gaming PC. Since the infamous 32-bit generation we have seen the downfall of major hardware companies and Nintendo just didnt know how to let go. I cant see Nintendo being a player when the next era of gaming rolls in and should follow suit with Sega and just publish titles for all platforms so that you dont feel punched in the mouth for buying a system to only have 3 decent games.[/citation]
I find it amusing that simply because Nintendo got smart and went after the largest potential target market at the cost of graphic power, hardcore gamers think they are a non-competitor. You honestly think the company that produced the most successful gaming system in at the past, at least, 10-15 years should just make titles b/c they are disconnected with the industry? Nintendo is like the Blizzard of consoles in the sense that they don't just market to hardcore gamers, but rather to everyone. They cater to the casuals. IMO, the only people that are NOT in Nintendo’s target market are hardcore gamers that do not have your typical female friends.
If I'm by myself and want to relax and play a good game, I fire up my new self-built computer or my xbox 360. However, if I'm having a party, I sooner fire up the Wii and get my female friends boxing or playing tennis vs each other than fire up COD:MW. The only game that Xbox or PS3 really has that appeals to mass audiences are the rock bank/guitar hero games.
Like it or not, if Nintendo is smart about things, which I have no doubt they will be, they will be a major contender in the console marketing during the next decade. While Sony and M$ are trying to catch up to Nintendo’s play style via their motion controlled add-ons (see Natal), Nintendo is undoubtedly developing their next system. While the Wii lacks in good M titles and hardcore appeal, they are leading the industry with regards to market share, and the other companies ARE trying to play catch-up.
