Set screen in game @ 4:3

Good evening all,

I hope you guys will help me with this problem.

I am playing competitive on Battlefield 3, and when I was at home I was able to play with a resolution of 800x600 with screen at 4:3 without any problem. Then, I had to move to the UK because of university, and I had to buy a laptop in order to be able to play. Now the problem is, I cannot set resolution at 800x600 having at the same time a screen ratio of 4:3. When i was at home I simply clicked on a button on the screen to adjust the size, but now, on the laptop, I simply can't.

If I set a resolution of 800x600, it stays at 16:9, which looks strechted, and is very annoying. I am playing on an Alienware m17x, with AMD 7970M. Do you guys have any solutions?

Basically I want my in game screen to look like this:

If you guys can help me it would be great, as I have not found any solution yet.

Set the resolution in the games graphics options...

I did I set at 800x600, but it stays at 16:9, when i want it at 4:3 like in the video I linked The problem is, I really cant find a way to do it

You realise that if you do set it that way you WILL have a black strip down either side ?

Yes I know I am used to play with those black stripes on both side This is what I want to achieve, like in the video I posted Do you have any solutions?

Hmm.... how about adding an OLD 4:3 EXTERNAL monitor ?

I would, but I am in the Uk now, and every 3 months I go back to my country, so having a monitor would not be convenient for me, because I have to move very often I tried everything from control panel and from CCC, but nothing, still playing 800x600 @ 16:9.

Its a GAME problem really.....older games when monitors were changing format , gave you BOTH choices in graphics options....

You could maybe ask on the BF3 forums....

Thank you Brett i am not gonna ask on the Bf3 forum because the BF community is quite dumb, they would start complaining about playing 800x600 and stuff like that, and I can't be bothered by kids atm But really, thanks a lot

By the way, I can set 800x600 from CCC, so when I am on internet or simply using my Pc, I have the 2 black stripes, but as soon as I go in game, it goes full screen. So yeah, I think is the fact I have a laptop and I cannot change that option But if anyone knows how to fix that, please, answer on this thread, is really important for me!

Dude I have the exact same problem! Did you find any solutions? Cause I can't play 800x600 on my laptop, it streches it to fullscreen even though I put the screen resolution to 800x600
