SG2100 Motor Not Moving

Folks,

I have an SG2100 that's been working great for a couple of years, and
has suddenly stopped wanting to move. It did it while set on a
satellite, and now does not respond to commands. I can still view the
transponders it's pointing at, so I know that power is reaching it
(and the LNB beyond).

If I try to command a move from the motor itself (going to the mount
and using the slew East/West button) I get a click, and no movement.
The shaft is solid, with no slop.

Before I tear down the motor or order a replacement, can anyone
suggest some more diagnostics? I'm going to put another receiver on,
just to check that end, but since the motor won't move when commanded
locally, I don't think that's it.

Replace it with a 10' dish. :)

rose,

Nothing changed. The motor just produces clicking with I command it
from the housing switch. According to the documentation, that
indicates service is required. I do not know of anyone who services
these units, so I've purchased another one.

I elected to purchase the same exact unit. It's served me well for
several years, and I won't have to change anything to re-aim the dish.
(Newer motors are overhead mounts and have different alignment
settings.)

Once the new motor arrives and is installed, I'll disassemble the old
one to see what failed.

How long did your STAB HH120 last?

About a year or so.. Not very long if you ask me. They wanted me to send the
bloody thing back to Italy and have it repaired. Never bothered!

Well, my replacement is installed. They changed the pitch of the bend
of the rotor shaft, so it wasn't as plug-n-play as I intended, but I'm
up and running again.

I haven't had a chance to disassemble the old motor yet - more news
when I find out the cause.
