I narrowed down on hp pavilion 15-p045tx for moderate gaming.

Specs- i7 4510u(2ghz tb to 3.1 ghz), win 8.1, 8 gb ram, 1 tb hdd, 2gb ddr3 geforce 840m

The driver issue with 840m is forcing me to go with hp envy j110tx

Specs- i5 4200m, win 8.1, 2gb ddr3 gt 740m

Should I go with the pavilion with 840m hoping for better future drivers or the hp envy with gt 740m

I'm not a gamer but I've found this: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GT-740M-vs-GeForce-840M
Note that the 840M is 1GB DDR3 and you mencioned a 2GB DDR3 840M. If with half the memory 840M performe just a little lower in some tests an won others, then with the same amount of memory and a higher clock the 840M 2GB will be better. Check if the 840M is really 2Gb dedicated

Then you have core i7 vs core i5, that surprised me: http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/843/Intel_Core_i5_Mobile_i5-4200M_vs_Intel_Core_i7_Mobile_i7-4510U.html
For performance and upgrade capacity I would go for the i5. The i7 is much more energy effient but can´t be upgraded and has little less performance... In theory...
Price and full specs list would make me decide.

I dont hav the laptop, just worried if I wouldnt find the right drivers for 840m to work . But I will still get the pavilion with the 840m.

Btw which one do u think will have better gaming performance at 720p.

Thanks a lot for the replies. 2gb ddr3 dedicated 840m. Geforce 840m i7 4510u laptop-

gt 740m laptop i5 4200m -

the i7 840m laptop's 23.87 mm thick vs 27.9mm thickness for the one with i5 & 740m. I thought larger is the laptop better is the air flow and heat dissipation. Am i wrong ? Also the i7 is an ulv processor, what kind of performance can i expect from it. Is turbo boost dependable- can i expect it to work through 2 to 3 years of usage, i have no experience of it as my old lappy has only a pdc processor. Please advise.

You're welcome.

It´s almost the same stuff with "details" that pop my attention in sound quality and optical drive:
Envy i5: Beats Audio with Highest Quality Sound, HD Audio, Integrated Speaker Bar Quad Speakers with Internal Subwoofer. Optical Drive Not Available
Pavilion i7: Beats Audio with Highest Quality Sound, Dual Speakers. Optical Drive SuperMulti DVD RW Drive with Dual Layer Support

You've told in the inicial post you want it to for moderate gaming... Seems that this are more then enough.
